Inspiring and showcasing PHN commissioning innovation (Australia)

Annual National Primary Health Network Commissioning Showcase

The client

Australia’s Primary Health Networks (PHNs) are responsible for identifying the needs of people in their regions, working with GPs and other health professionals to build workforce capacity and integrate health services to deliver better outcomes and experiences for their communities.

The challenge

Whilst 31 PHNs face a range of differing commissioning challenges across their geographies, they all share the desire to learn from one another to become leading commissioners. Also, they all strive to maximise the outcomes and experiences for their populations from their health investments.

PHNs needed a forum to share international and national commissioning insights and network with PHN colleagues facing similar challenges.

100% of participants would recommend the event to a colleague

“Extraordinary insights. This was gold”

“The keynote presenters were excellent as was the networking”

“Well structured agenda, covering all the burning topics that commissioners really need to hear about.”

The impact of our work

In 2017, Rebbeck teamed up with HNECC PHN to develop the inaugural National PHN Commissioning Showcase. This event attracted nearly 80 participants from more than two thirds of Australia’s PHNs.

Since that first year, the event has grown in popularity and scale.

The event is now run on an annual basis and is organised by a dedicated group of members drawn from across the New South Wales Primary Health Network Alliance (NSW PHN Alliance).

Rebbeck are delighted to have supported the design and facilitation of every National PHN Commissioning Showcase since its inception.

From the outset, our mantra has been to design the PHN Commissioning Showcase ‘by PHNs for PHNs’.

We use a highly consultative engagement approach to co-design and facilitate the event, with PHNs taking a greater leadership role as their commissioning maturity has grown.

The PHN Commissioning Showcase has become a unique and important event in the PHN calendar for PHNs to:

  • Enhance commissioning learnings across the PHN network, fostering deeper interactions and knowledge sharing.
  • Learn based on exemplars of national and international commissioning good practice.
  • Understand and consider the application of global trends in the social health sector with a focus on commissioning.
  • Foster opportunities for collaboration and co-design that reduce cost and accelerate PHN progression.

We are excited to support this event grow from strength to strength over the coming years.
